Sorted Books

I worked in a bookstore while I was going to University. Over the course of time, we discovered that there was someone who was coming into the bookstore and wrecking havoc on the shelves by maliciously shelving books in the wrong place.  I would have looked upon them more kindly if they were doing this project by Nina Katchadourian:

The Sorted Books project culls through a collection of books, pulling particular titles, and eventually grouping the books into clusters so that the titles can be read in sequence, from top to bottom.

I always just assumed that the phantom shelver was an accumulation of everyone's mistakes that got blown out of proportion. Did anyone ever get caught?
There might have been more than one culprit, but we narrowed it down to one man that we knew for sure was responsible for at least part of it. We kept a close eye on him when he was in the store.
