Splitscreen

This was shot entirely on the Nokia N8 mobile phone and was the winner of the Nokia Shorts competition 2011.

What I love about this video, besides its flawless execution, is how it makes me yearn to travel.

Alfresco Vancouver

Tonight I was lucky to partake in Alfresco Vancouver:

Alfresco brings together old friends, with new, celebrating great food, public space, spontaneity, and surprise.

In a flash mob fashion, diners meet, set up, share food, and dismantle. The location is kept secret till the evening prior. Part slow food, part art installation, Alfresco is an urban curiosity.

We believe good food should not only be shared, but shared in spontaneous "outdoor dining rooms." We hope to inspire all forms of picnicking by organizing pop-up family suppers in unexpected public spaces, connecting community with cuisine.

This was my third year attending Alfresco and it's just as great as I remember. The communal accordion-style table is a great way to interact with people and share food.

Oh and the food. The food! I was fortunate to sit next to a popular dish of the night made by Zoe: delicious pulled pork sandwiches with a root beer sauce (pictured).

What did I make? I decided that bacon should be a key ingredient and made pecan & apple smoked bacon tarts. Although I had no recipe for this, I was confident that the combination of smoky and sweet would work. Thankfully, I was right and this is definitely going into my books as a repeat.

Looking forward to the next Alfresco!

Islands

I go through periods where I like a band so much that I play them non-stop for weeks. This happened with Edward Sharpe and now it's happening with Young the Giant.

I've listened to this video about 15x today. It's beautiful, serene, and the perfect backdrop to my work day.
